Story
Story
This fine art print features one of Limerick’s most iconic landmarks — the Treaty Stone. Standing proudly across the Thomond bridge from King John's Castle, it marks the site where the Treaty of Limerick was signed atop this very stone on October 3rd, 1691. The agreement followed the Williamite War between King William III and his father-in-law, King James II, and shaped the city’s place in Irish history. More than just a relic of the past, the Treaty Stone has come to symbolise the spirit of Limerick — resilient, rebellious, and always rooting for the underdog. Its rough edges, irregular curves, and weather-worn texture mirror the character of the city itself: full of heart, history, and strength. It's no wonder Limerick is known as the Treaty City, with the stone featured proudly in the city’s crest — a reminder of where we’ve come from and what we stand for.
